The BG series reels from Daiwa have been winners for this traditional Japanese manufacturer.Please do understand one thing about Daiwa, they are the most traditional of Japanese manufacturers. Within the Japanese market, they are the dominant high end manufacturer of reels, the bike maker is a secondary player. That may not be the case in folks minds on this side of the Pacific given advertising, but it is fact. Daiwa does not change models oftenand when they do theres a good reason.* Ill also mention that generally Daiwas reels are backwards compatible so they are not made to be junked after a few years. These are some of the things that make them traditional Japanese manufacturers in my opinion. The new BGs will be a very important part of their line up for years to come. There will also be an update to their Saltist series saltwater specific spinning reels, those arriving mid-fall.

The new BGs incorporate most of Daiwas newer technology in spinning reel design. They offer a black anodized machined aluminum housing (hard bodyz body and side cover), an over-sized digigear system, solid screw-in handle, AIR ROTOR, waterproof drag system, machined aluminum screw in handle, manual bail return (4500 and larger), 6 ball bearings with 1 roller bearing, infinite anti-reverse (4000 and smaller), DUAL infinite AR on 4500 size up. Theres more, carbon drags, braid ready spool, and no doubt some other wiz-bang features Ive failed to note. Bottom line, the reels are very nice and their pricing is also right on target or in reality well under market for whats being offered.
